WASHINGTON - Congresswoman Mary Miller (IL-15) issued the following statement on the current gas crisis:
"The hack of the Colonial Pipeline is certainly creating a crisis in various parts of the country, but the real story here is the lack of foresight and vision when it comes to our national energy policy.
Biden’s lack of response to the Colonial Pipeline hacking is showing weakness and inviting future attacks.
Far-left extremists continue to oppose every effort to make our country truly energy-independent. They oppose any investment in oil and gas and the end result is a catastrophe when something happens to disrupt our supply of energy.
There is certainly nothing wrong with investing in alternative sources of energy, but we cannot currently rely on alternative energy sources to meet our energy demands. We as a nation need to be forward-thinking. We need to make sure that our nation is not held hostage by one pipeline being shut down. We need more investment in refineries, and we need more pipelines to come online to ensure the safety and security of our energy supply.
One of Joe Biden’s first acts was to shut down the Keystone XL Pipeline. That decision was a huge mistake when he made it and it is proving to be an even bigger mistake now.
The people who live and work in Illinois’s 15th Congressional District need to be able to drive to work, to school, and to live their lives.
Joe Biden’s poor energy policies are adversely affecting the people I represent. The current average price of gas in Illinois is $3.257 per gallon which is far above the national average of $3.039. Only six other states have higher average gas prices than Illinois.
It is time for Joe Biden to put America first instead of enacting policies that put the safety and security of our nation at risk."
