14-year old Colt Gray abruptly left his high school classroom and returned a short time later with a gun – going on a shooting spree in the classroom next door after a fellow student refused to let him back in class after seeing the weapon, as four people are dead and nine others are injured.
Sheriff’s office reports indicate that at 10:20 am EST, the department received notifications about an active shooter incident at Apalachee High School, just northeast of Atlanta. When officers arrived at the scene a short time later, a resource officer confronted the shooter and he immediately put down his weapon and surrendered.
Four people were killed, including two 14-year old students and two math teachers. The nine injured include eight students and one teacher.
During an evening town hall event in the battleground state Pennsylvania with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, former President Donald Trump addressed the shooting, vowing to “heal the world” when he’s elected president, saying, “It’s a sick and angry world for a lot of reasons and we’re going to make it better. We’re going to heal our world.”
Late on Wednesday, the Illinois State Rifle Association shared a statement with this publication, writing,
“The Illinois State Rifle Association in the strongest of terms, does not condone any act of violence – especially the criminal misuse of firearms to commit violent acts.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those killed during today’s tragic shooting at a high school in Georgia. We’re also thinking of the other victims and their families and wishing them a full recovery.”
Although 14-years old, Gray will be charged with murder and he will be prosecuted as an adult, according to Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith.
