BOLINGBROOK, IL — A child on his way to school was struck in a crosswalk by a vehicle driven by longtime Democrat leader and Will County Board Member Jacqueline Traynere. According to police and witness reports, after hitting the child, Traynere left the scene and later showed up at the Bolingbrook Police Department.
The accident occurred on the morning of March 11, 2025. The child, riding his bicycle with the crosswalk light in his favor, was reportedly hit by Traynere’s blue vehicle while crossing the street. Multiple witnesses confirmed the child was legally crossing when the car, which had been stopped at a red light, accelerated once the left turn arrow turned green. According to these witnesses, Traynere hit the child, briefly checked on him, and then left the scene, heading eastbound on Lily Cache Lane. One witness immediately called police to report the incident.
When Traynere arrived at the Bolingbrook Police Station later that morning, she told officers she wasn’t sure if she had hit the child. However, officers noted visible damage to her vehicle, including a dent and large scratch on the hood, which was not explained by Traynere. Despite the child reporting being struck by the car, and another child on the scene confirming the same, Traynere was only issued a ticket for failing to yield the right-of-way in a crosswalk.
The young victim, thankfully, did not appear to suffer visible injuries, but his bicycle was damaged. The chain was broken during the impact. Illinois Review reached out to Traynere for comment, but she has not responded.
Jacqueline Traynere has held public office for nearly two decades. She has served on the Will County Board since 2008 and was elected Democratic Leader in 2022. She also holds the role of Township Administrator for DuPage Township. Traynere is deeply involved in Democrat-led organizations and liberal causes, including Bolingbrook Pride, Raise the Floor, and Illinois Women’s Institute for Leadership. She has served in leadership roles in several community groups and liberal political organizations. Beyond politics, she’s been active in the business world as a former president of The Cleaning Authority and a current real estate agent at Baird Warner in Naperville.
This incident raises serious concerns—not just about Traynere’s actions that morning, but about how quickly it seems to have been brushed aside. Why wasn’t there more accountability? Would an everyday citizen who left the scene of a child-involved accident receive the same treatment? What’s even more alarming is that this isn’t just about a single traffic violation. It’s about a pattern of behavior seen too often among political elites—especially in Illinois—where Democrat officeholders sidestep responsibility while the public is left with the consequences.
This case is yet another example of Democrat officials failing to protect the most vulnerable: children. Whether it’s turning a blind eye to rising crime in school zones, exposing children to unsafe conditions, or supporting policies that harm families, the message is clear—Democrat leadership continues to fall short.
Conservatives have long warned that when leaders lack accountability, innocent people suffer. Traynere’s actions, followed by a lack of meaningful consequence, reinforce that point.
Under Illinois law, leaving the scene of an accident—especially one involving a pedestrian or cyclist—can be considered a criminal offense depending on the circumstances. The law demands that drivers remain at the scene, ensure the victim is safe, and report the incident. Yet in this case, the elected official responsible simply left and went to the police station on her own terms. That alone should raise eyebrows.
There was no arrest. No major citation. Just a ticket. One has to ask: if this had been an everyday citizen—especially one without political connections—would they have walked away with just a citation?
This event puts the spotlight back on Illinois’ ongoing crisis of leadership. From Chicago to the collar counties, Democrat officials continue to hold power while public trust erodes. Whether it’s crime, education, or public safety, their decisions—and actions—rarely align with the interests of working families. And while the left continues to preach about protecting the vulnerable, this case sends the opposite message. A child on his way to school was hit in a crosswalk. And the person behind the wheel was a high-ranking Democrat who left the scene and now remains silent.
Illinois voters deserve more than silence. They deserve accountability. As of this report, no further legal action has been taken against Jacqueline Traynere beyond the citation for failing to yield. The child involved, thankfully, appears to be recovering, but the fact remains—a child was struck, and the driver left the scene. This isn’t about politics—it’s about public safety. And every parent in Illinois should be asking: if this happened to your child, would the outcome be the same?
Illinois Review will continue to follow this story and demand answers from the officials tasked with serving the people—not protecting themselves
