Considerations associated with the COVID-19 pandemic have caused many states to place greater emphasis on mail-in balloting. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention even recommended mail-in ballots a way to vote without risking exposure to the virus at the polls. Meanwhile, President Trump has repeatedly said mail-in ballots will lead to voting fraud, giving a boost to Joe Biden.
All states do allow registered voters to vote by mail upon request using "Absentee ballots." This method of voting has been in place for years for the military and other voters who can’t or don’t want to show up at the polls. However, under the mail-in ballot scheme, as favored by Democrats, all registered voters in every state would automatically receive a ballot, whether they are dead or alive or still live within the jurisdiction.
As Tom Fitton, head of Judicial Watch wrote in last week's Weekly Update: “96 million Americans are going to be getting ballots or absentee ballots application. . . that no one has asked for.”
"With an estimated 96 million ballots to be sent through the mail, the opportunities for fraud are of enormous proportions. In 2016, approximately 319,000 absentee mail-in ballots were thrown out. This year we don’t have any guess how many will be thrown out, because there’s no precedent to what’s being planned here, which is to the break the system.”
Ross Marchand, Vice President of Policy for the Taxpayers Protection Alliance, had this to say in his article posted Aug. 17, 2020, Politicians, Pundits Deliver Postal Misinformation: "There is no shortage of misinformation about the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), a beleaguered agency that lost $8.8 billion last year and has more than $160 billion in unfunded liabilities. Since Postmaster General Louis DeJoy assumed leadership of the agency on June 15, former presidents, lawmakers, and even famed musicians have alleged that there’s a conspiracy to hobble the USPS. Fortunately, there’s no evidence that’s the case."
“While USPS leadership could’ve certainly done a better job of communicating postal policy changes, the changes over the past two months are continuations – and sometimes accelerations – of longstanding changes at the USPS. And, until more comprehensive reforms are undertaken, the agency will continue to bleed red ink and function inefficiently ahead of the 2020 election"
Blame Trump
"Trump is being accused of sabotaging the November elections because he won’t give the postal unions and incompetent managers in the postal service $25 billion to play with. The money will stave off catastrophe for about a year at the rate the USPS is burning through cash. Without that money, we’re informed by those in the know, thousands — no, tens of thousands — no, millions of voters who wait until the last minute to mail in an absentee ballot might not have their votes counted because, well, Trump."
The Democrat/media narrative that the USPS desperately needs another $25 billion to accommodate their “vote by mail” scheme for this year’s elections is but a fiction: Even if congress allocated the extra money, it would be impossible for USPS management to spend any of it prior to November 3rd. This is, in other words, just another fake narrative invented out of whole cloth by the Democrats and parroted by the national news media.
Given the above narrative, how could it be that both
postal workers and letter carriers both say, unequivocally, that the system remains fully capable of delivering every single ballot cast by mail in a secure and timely manner, whether or not Congress provides the funding included in the HEROES Act
.
Furthermore, “The U.S. Postal Service has an entire structure in place to coordinate with state and local election boards to facilitate secure and timely delivery of mail ballots."
The Left's conspiracy
Shelby Talcott of the
Daily Caller on August 18, 2020, offered the following summary of the
WSJ Editorial Board's condemnation of the conspiracy theory of the USPS by Nancy Pelosi and Democratic leaders.
"The conspiracy claims that the Trump administration is tampering with post collection boxes in an effort to suppress votes leading up to the 2020 election.
The allegations have been thoroughly debunked, but this has not stopped some from continuing to push the topic.
In fact, two Democratic congressmen wrote a letter to the FBI Monday pushing for a criminal investigation into Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, the WSJ editorial board noted. Pelosi announced Sunday that she is calling the House back into session due to the alleged concerns.
“Mrs. Pelosi is trying to put on a political show, starring Democrats as the saviors of the post office,” the editorial board wrote after providing evidence that the claims don’t hold water.
“THIS IS A MADE-FOR-TV PHONY POLITICAL CRISIS. THE USPS HAS LONG-TERM CHALLENGES, BUT ENOUGH MONEY TO LAST INTO 2021.
Mr. DeJoy says there’s ‘ample capacity to deliver all election mail.’ Some states have startlingly lax ballot deadlines, but nobody can pretend with a straight face that it’s the post office’s fault. Democrats have also scheduled a hearing for next Monday so they can yell at Mr. DeJoy in person. “How long before Rep. Adam Schiff says it’s another Russia-Donald Trump conspiracy to steal the election?”
The WSJ’s editorial board even noted that while former Vice President Joe Biden claimed that the postal service is “literally” using “tractor trailers” to pick up mailboxes, the reality is far from this claim.
“The USPS says it has nearly 142,000 boxes across the country, which are adjusted as volume and costs dictate,” according to the WSJ. “In August 2016, the USPS’s Inspector General said that ‘the number of collection boxes declined by more than 12,000 in the past 5 years.'”
“Voter suppression by the Obama Administration?” the WSJ’s editorial board wondered in Monday’s article, titled “NANCY PELOSI GOES POLITICALLY POSTAL.”
Speaker Pelosi calls for action
Speaker Nancy Pelosi made false claims about the USPS and Social Security on Sunday, August 16, 2020 when she took to Twitter to urge her caucus to come back to Washington and save the USPS – and retirees’ Social Security checks. Notable is that Pelosi didn't call on the House to return to vote on anything having to do with pandemic unemployment.
Nancy Pelosi @SpeakerPelosi
The assault by President Trump & his mega-donor Postmaster General Louis DeJoy on the Postal Service threatens lives, livelihood & life of our American democracy. I am calling on the House to return to vote on Chairwoman Maloney’s “Delivering for America Act.” #DontMessWithUSPS
There’s just one problem. The Social Security Administration hasn’t mailed benefit checks for nearly 10 years.
Truth exposed
All Democrats have left is to blame Trump, which they are pathetically trying to do by
calling back the House to “save” the Post Office, whose union leader endorsed Joe Biden and who has been a sick puppy for decades in a world full of well-run private carriers and the Internet.
Democrats obviously needed something to gin up the troops since their Convention is not going to work. Blaming Trump and DeJay for postal service problems that are not recent in scope is just another gimmick to add to Russiagate, Impeachment, Draconian lock downs after Trump was racist to stop Chinese from entering the country, etc.
Sanders, Pelosi, Biden, the Clintons—this is a party that has leadership that are at the very end of their rope, just hoping the cliches and tactics of the distant past will work once again.
