As of mid-June, one quarter of all COVID-19 deaths, 30,784, occurred among people living in nursing homes. Stephen Moses, president of the Center for Long Term Care Reform, says he is not surprised by this outcome, as Medicaid now pays the bill for more than 62 percent of nursing home residents. An estimated 1.3 million people reside in American’s 15,600 nursing homes.
