In an Indivisible DuPage webinar this week, US Congressman Sean Casten (IL-06) raised eyebrows with a comment he made – that follows up on many other questions his comments have raised in the past few months.
"Come 2021, the majority of my colleagues agree that democracy is a good thing … the Enlightenment is a good thing … they agree the good guys won World War II … " Casten said on the video to his supporters.
Which begs the question: does Casten infer that Democrats support those that defeated the Nazis in World War II and Republicans don't?
“Insinuating that those who disagree with him are Nazi sympathizers should dispel any idea that Sean Casten’s view are representative of the reasonable and independent-minded people in the Sixth District,” said Jeanne Ives, Candidate for Congress (IL-06). “That Sean Casten would equate those who believe in limited government to Nazis – who tortured and murdered 6 million Jews – tells you exactly who the extremist is and who’s recklessly advancing intolerant views. No one should take him seriously anymore.
Ives went on to say if any Republican made such an outrageous statement, they would be on front page news. "We await the story from any Chicago press outlet," she said.
