AURORA – Among seven Republicans vying to the the 14th CD's nominee, the DuPage Conservative Steering Committee picked State Senator Jim Oberweis in the IL GOP March 17th 2020 primary.
Frank Napolitano, who also serves as chairman of the College of DuPage Board of Trustees, spoke on behalf of the committee as to why they made an endorsement in a contentious GOP primary.
"Jim has a history of being a strong supporter of traditional family values. He believes in personal freedoms, limited government and is a constitutional conservative," he said.
The group, which boasts nearly 1000 Facebook followers, is led by Napolitano, Rafael Rivadeneira, Ron Brzoska, Bobby McNeily and Jack Walczak.
“I am pleased to have the support of the DuPage Conservatives,” Oberweis said. “They know I won’t raise taxes. They know I support the right to life for the unborn, and they know I will be a strong advocate for border security because I have a long track record of supporting conservative principles in the Illinois Senate. I am the conservative candidate that can win the General Election and I am delighted the DuPage Conservatives agree.”
Whoever wins the March 17th primary will face freshman Congresswoman Lauren Underwood, who lines up politically with The Squad led by New York Democrat Socialist US Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Napolitano continued, acknowledging that 14th CD will be an important race in November – with an effort for Republicans to regain the US House majority.
"We also believe Jim has the name recognition and resources to defeat the radical socialist agenda of Lauren Underwood, and win back this critical congressional seat and help to take back the US House," he said.
In addition to the DuPage Conservatives endorsement, Oberweis has been endorsed by the Winfield Township Republicans organization, the Lake County Republicans, the Lake County Right to Life organization, Citizens for Life Federal PAC, and former Congressman Don Manzullo.
Others on the 14th CD GOP primary ballot include Anthony Catella, Catalina Lauf, Jerry Evans, Ted Gradel, James Marter and Sue Rezin.
