OAK BROOK – "History is littered with bloodless coup attempts. But in the Trump era, enemy combatants not only are spared bloodshed, they don’t even have to give their names. That’s not courage or 'speaking truth to power'—it’s calculated cowardice that would be out-of-bounds in any criminal trial, job setting, or personal relationship. Impeachment rules aside, most Americans will, and should, view this as patently unfair and a legitimate danger to our system of government now and in the future."
So writes conservative opinion leader Julie Kelly in her latest column "The Anonymous Coup" in the pro-Trump national website, American Greatness.
Thursday night, Ms. Kelly who lives in Orland Park, Illinois, and the website's founder and editor Chris Buskirk led a discussion about current national political news.
Ms. Kelly, whose published opinions have been heralded by the likes of conservative leaders such as Congressman Devin Nunes, likened the current impeachment project to Leftist Democrat efforts' Russian hoax to oust Trump.
"The pattern the Left uses is the same," Kelly said. She predicted the Ukraine scandal to ultimately fail to oust Trump.
The American Greatness effort started in 2016, Buskirk said. It stems from the Center for American Greatness, a 501c3 organization.
The group has notable backers, including former Chicago Bear Dan Hampton, who introduced Buskirk and Kelly to the crowd gathered at Gibson's in Oak Brook – an area where Hillary Clinton commandingly beat Donald Trump in 2016.
That fact didn't faze Hampton, who played on Chicago's famous 1985 Super Bowl Championship team.
"I'm a huge Trump supporter," Hampton told the crowd.
