COOK COUNTY – Cook County Illinois' air waves have become a battleground over the one-cent-an- ounce soda tax. Former New York Mayor Bloomberg is funding the ads in support of the tax, saying the tax is for the health of the county's children.
Malarkey, retail merchants argue. Taxing soda isn't about kids, it's about shutting retail businesses and restaurants on the county's borders and pushing jobs over those borders into neighboring areas that do not charge a similar tax.
It's about how tax dollars are spent, those opposing the tax say in "Can the Tax" ads arguing the tax be repealed.
