CHICAGO – While those 15 Illinois House Republicans continue to defend their decision to betray taxpayers and vote to support a 32% state income tax hike, Illinois House Democrats are delighted that those Republicans gave them "bipartisan" bragging rights on passing a budget. Nobody can just point to the Democrats as tax hikers.
They're taking their message to Twitter and dragging those poor Republicans along with them.
Yeah, the IL House Democrats say, our budget that raises income and gasoline taxes while hardly touching $15 Billion in overdue bills and once again reducing what the state will pay into the state employees' pension funds, saved the jobs of all those guys and gals working on roads and bridges this summer.
Oh, and the budget they claim to be balanced isn't. According to State Senator Kyle McCarter (R-O'Fallon) who opposed the budget and who also is a manufacturer and an accountant, it's a mere $2.6 billion short of being balanced.
See how Speaker Madigan makes fools of Republicans that try to appear cooperative and please insatiable Illinois House leadership?
