Despite no full budget deal for the current fiscal year, there’s not enough workload to bring state Representatives back to Springfield next week. That’s according to the spokesperson for House Speaker Michael Madigan’s office after announcing the cancellation of session next week.
Leading House Republican Jim Durkin said in a statement the House Democrat’s action speaks for itself and House Republicans continue to stand ready to negotiate and solve the FY 16 budget impasse.
A news release from Madigan’s office says the House should plan on returning to Springfield Wednesday January 27th, the same day the governor is set to give the State of the State address. Meanwhile the Senate has an Executive Appointments committee scheduled for Wednesday afternoon in Springfield. The state is more than six months into the fiscal year without a budget in place.
