SPRINGFIELD – Any Illinois student from 6th to 12th grade could win a laptop, a tablet or a Kindle Fire in a poster contest on the theme of "Don't Drink Drugs, Alcohol is a Drug." The contest wraps April 4th.
The Illinois Churches in Action is sponsoring the competition in order to attract students to a discussion on the harmful nature of alcohol.
"Alcohol is the drug most frequently used and abused by young people, and the one that causes the most negative health consequences," Lynn Allen of the group wrote to parents and teachers.
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), alcohol is responsible for more than 4300 annual deaths among underage youth, and those aged 12 to 20 years drink 11 percent of all alcohol consumed in the U.S.
All artwork must incorporate the "Don't Drink Drugs, Alcohol is a Drug" theme and the submission must be on an 8.5 x 11 white paper, drawn with pencil, ink, markers or crayons.
Winners will be notified April 20, 2016. For more information, call 217.546.6871 or check www.ilcaaap.org.
