We know that Judge Merrick Garland, 63, hails from the Chicago area. He was born in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood before his family moving to Lincolnwood. He graduated in 1970 from Niles West High School in Skokie and was the class valedictorian.
After graduating from Harvard Law School, Garland clerked in the U.S. Supreme Court before joining a private law practice. Then he served as a U.S. prosecutor, leading investigations into the Unabomber and the Oklahoma City bombing case. He is now Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
