WASHINGTON DC – At least one voice at the conservative American Enterprise Institute is very concerned that Britain opted to "Brexit" this week.
Dalibor Rohac, who makes a conservative case for keeping things the way they were, has a dire prediction of what is about to happen after the Brits voted to leave the European Union.
He writes:
The outcome of yesterday’s vote took many by surprise, this author included. For months, indeed until the first results started coming in, betting markets had been consistent in showing a more or less substantial lead for the Remain camp. So were the recent polls, including those conducted on the day of the referendum. Here’s what to expect from Brexit in five areas:
- Global economic crisis
- The sovereignty delusion
- The EU’s eventual disintegration
- Transatlantic ties will be weaker, not stronger.
- Europe still needs to fix itself.
