SPRINGFIELD, IL – Seizing the opportunity to exploit an act of terrorism in Orlando, Florida, left-wing Illinois House member Gregory Harris (D) introduced another gun control regulation in the House, and it’s gaining some bi-partisan support.
According to reports, the bill would bar terrorists and those the state deems a threat to public safety from obtaining firearms. And if someone on the terrorist watch list applies for a FOID card - Firearms Owner’s Identification Card (required in Illinois to purchase or possess firearms and/or ammunition), Illinois State Police would be permitted to inform the FBI, which the already do before issuing a FOID card.
While many across the country have expressed their concerns about a lack of “due process” in the federal gun control proposals, especially those authored by Democrats, Harris claims his bill is different and will provide “appropriate” due process, adding that someone who has their FOID card denied or revoked will be able to petition through a multi-level government appeals process.
Rep. Ed Sullivan, a Mundelein Republican, is one of the bill’s chief co-sponsors. Other sponsors and supporters include State Rep. Ron Sandack, R-Downers Grove, and House Republican Leader Jim Durkin, R-Western Springs.
