CHICAGO – Ex-Governor Pat Quinn and current Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner agree on one thing – they want to limit the number of terms for elected officials. However, there's a clear difference in their goals: Quinn is focused on limiting the terms for mayors and Rauner is honed in on limiting terms for state lawmakers.
Sunday, Pat Quinn told reporters he was initiating a petition drive to get his ideas on the November ballot – namely gathering 53,000 signatures to limit mayors to two terms, while creating an elected consumer advocate position, the Sun-Times reports.
Governor Rauner's efforts to limit lawmakers to "eight years and out" was launched during his 2014 campaign against career politicians and Pat Quinn's re-election.
“Out-of-control spending, record tax hikes, terrible unemployment and a state government controlled by special interests – the career politicians are failing Illinois, and Pat Quinn is the worst of all,” said Bruce Rauner. “I’ll put an end to the self-dealing and drive results for taxpayers.”
