WINNETKA — Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin) endorsed Illinois' Ninth District Congressional GOP candidate Joan McCarthy Lasonde – who is challenging longtime radical Leftist Democrat Jan Schakowsky.
Ryan noted Lasonde's concern for the nation's vulnerable.
“Joan believes in finding solutions to our nation's problems, because she is results-oriented," Ryan said. "She has worked within her community to help those who are struggling – to positively impact people’s lives. Her willingness to bridge differences and bring people together has made her effective in her community. I am happy to endorse Joan McCarthy Lasonde for Illinois’ 9th Congressional District.”
As Speaker, Ryan authored and rolled out A Better Way, a blueprint for restoring America's economic growth, fiscal footing, and culture of opportunity for all.
Lasonde, a fiscal conservative, shares many of the principles behind Ryan's plan, especially the emphasis on lifting people out of poverty. She is a longtime resident of Wilmette who has worked with several community groups to help the most vulnerable. She and her husband are also DCFS-licensed foster parents to a 7-year-old girl.
Lasonde is challenging nine-term incumbent Jan Schakowsky.
"I am honored by Speaker Ryan's endorsement," Lasonde said. "As congresswoman, I will work with Speaker Ryan and other members of Congress from both parties to restore our economic strength without leaving our most vulnerable behind. "Speaker Ryan has proven his mettle as a leader throughout his career in Congress, including his time as the Republican nominee for Vice President and in his first year as Speaker. I look forward to casting my first vote in Congress for him as Speaker this January."
