CHICAGO – While thousands lined the streets around Wrigley Field late Sunday night, celebrating the Chicago Cubs squeaker of a win over the Cleveland Indians in the 2016 World Series Game 5, just a few miles away, 17 Chicagoans were killed and 44 wounded on Chicago's violent Westside.

The latest killing took place at 4:00 am Monday morning, just as Cubs fans' started home after a long night of safety and partying.

The tale of two drastically different communities within one city raises the question: How can the environments so near each other be so different?

Cubs' fans were paying thousands of dollars to watch their favorite baseball team, which hasn't won a World Series since 1908. Less than five miles away, gangland killings ruled the weekend – and this weekend was the worst this October.

Stats from HeyJackass.com show 70 shot and killed in October, 334 shot and wounded.Screen Shot 2016-10-31 at 8.33.06 AM
HeyJackass.com
lists the shootings and their locations while the city focused on three World Series games at Wrigley Field Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
