MCHENRY – Monday, retiring State Representative Mike Tryon endorsed GOP nominee Allen Skillicorn to succeed him in representing the 66th District in the Illinois House.
“Allen Skillicorn is a proven tax fighter with a record of success. As a village trustee he lowered taxes and demanded balanced budgets. The General Assembly needs people like Allen who will stand up to the tax-and-spend policies of Mike Madigan and his super-majority,” Tryon said in a statement.
Tryon, who has served eight terms in the Illinois House, said the only way to eliminated the "Madigan grip" in Springfield is to add to the number of Republicans in the House.
“Allen believes area taxpayers should not be punished for their investment in their schools. He will fight to protect our local school funding and end Chicago bailouts,” he said. Tryon also pointed to Skillicorn's track record as trustee. "He lowered property taxes in his town for the past five years and will protect our local school funding.”
Skillicorn thanked Tryon for his support, saying, “There isn't a week that goes by when I’m not reminded by the voters about the large shoes I must fill at Representative Mike Tryon’s office.”
He continued, “Diminishing Speaker Madigan and the Chicago Democrats’ grip on the capitol dome is the only way to help our state move forward and protect our quality of life. As Representative Mike Tryon is well aware, there’s a parade of bad legislation emanating from the State House: bills to hike our taxes, to diminish our schools, and to peel away our rights as citizens. Ultimately, it’s a pocket book issue: specifically, their hands in our pockets.”
Skillicorn is facing Democrat Nancy Zettler on the November 8th ballot.
