President Barack Obama made this statement on Saturday in reaction to the death of Communist dictator Fidel Castro. "Our hopes and prayers are with the Cuban people." Obama made no mention at all of the victims of the Castro brothers who were shot by firing squads and no mention of thousands of political prisoners who died of neglect in prison. There was also no mention by Obama of Castro sending Cuban troops to fight for fellow Communists in Africa and in the Carribean and no mention of Castro's suppression of a free press and freedom of religious practise and sending dissident librarians to jail. No mention of the word "evil" in connection with the Castro dictatorship. President-elect Donald Trump did mention the victims of Castro as did Senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio. Cuban-Americans celebrated in Miami but their cousins in Havana will only be allowed to attend government-controlled ceremonies. President Obama still does not understand that freedom matters to people who do not have it.

The Left-Wing crazoids loved Fidel even though he banned labor unions and sent gays to prison for being gay.  They referred to Castro as a "Cuban leader" or "president" as if he was ever elected to the office. But Lefties called Fulgencio Batista a "dictator" which he was to a large degree in that he was not elected in free or fair elections either.  But under Batista at his worst, you could join a labor union or publish a book or newspaper or travel or change jobs inside Cuba without a permit or worship at a church or leave the country.  But Fidel Castro banned what limited freedoms Batista allowed so Castro by far was the more brutal dictator.

Far worse than the morally neutral statement of Obama was that of the new Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau who is the son of former Liberal Prime Minister Eliot Trudeau.  Trudeau is so far Left that he published a statement in praise of Fidel Castro on his death that you have to read to believe.  So here is the Justin Trudeau statement:

“It is with deep sorrow that I learned today of the death of Cuba’s longest serving President. “Fidel Castro was a larger than life leader who served his people for almost half a century. A legendary revolutionary and orator, Mr. Castro made significant improvements to the education and healthcare of his island nation. “While a controversial figure, both Mr. Castro’s supporters and detractors recognized his tremendous dedication and love for the Cuban people who had a deep and lasting affection for “el Comandante”. “I know my father was very proud to call him a friend and I had the opportunity to meet Fidel when my father passed away. It was also a real honor to meet his three sons and his brother President Raúl Castro during my recent visit to Cuba. “On behalf of all Canadians, Sophie and I offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and many, many supporters of Mr. Castro. We join the people of Cuba today in mourning the loss of this remarkable leader.”
