CHICAGO – Chicago Cubs' Todd Ricketts is taking a trip Saturday to meet with Donald Trump at Trump's golf course in New Jersey. Some are speculating that Ricketts could be under consideration to be the next Commerce Secretary.
Donald Trump wasn't the first presidential pick for the family that owns the World Champion Chicago Cubs. They were first enthusiastic about Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker. In fact, at one time, Todd Ricketts said Trump "would be a horrific candidate."
But by the last weeks of the campaign, Todd Ricketts, his brother and parents were knee deep in the effort to stop Hillary Clinton.
The Ricketts helped organize and fund the Future 45 super PAC, which ran ads during the World Series broadcasts against the Democrat nominee, and Todd Ricketts wrote a $1 million check to Trump before the election.
If picked for Commerce Secretary, Ricketts would follow another Chicagoan who has served the Obama Administration as head of the U.S. Department of Commerce, Penny Pritzker.
Ricketts is one of several meetings Trump and his advisors will hold Saturday. Former presidential candidate and political rival Mitt Romney is scheduled to meet with Trump, as well.
