The event was called "Cocktails with Congressmen." Illinois GOP Chairman Tim Schneider hosted the reception and fundraiser. He was joined by Congressmen Mike Bost, Peter Roskam, Randy Hultgren, Adam Kinzinger, Darin LaHood and Governor Bruce Rauner on Monday, June 19, 2017 at Gene and Georgetti Steakhouse in Rosemont.
Bruce Rauner was a last minute cancellation as he has called a special session of the General Assembly to work on the state budget. The first day of the special session in Springfield was called short as House Speaker Michael Madigan choose not to show up.
Each congressman spoke briefly on Illinois politics, Obamacare repeal, and the shooting at the ballfield in Virginia. Each mentioned the heroics of the D.C. Capital Police which defused the situation. Jeremy Wynes got a nice shout out, indicating he is running for Congress in the 10th District here in Illinois.
Several protesters lined up out front, but left after a short time. I interviewed a few of them but they seemed very shy and afraid of being photographed. Some of the better protesters with life sized cutout figures of Roskam and Rauner left before I arrived. Somebody inside said, "The protesters were paid for only an hour."

The congressmen along with the crowd were optimistic for the future of Illinois along with the rest of the country, especially if they can get more Republicans elected. Darin LaHood will be back in town for a breakfast on Saturday, July 22, 2017.
