Gubernatorial candidate J.B. Pritzker, who supports the Madigan tax hike, with Hillary Clinton
CHICAGO – Friday, hard-working citizens will get their first weekly paycheck sans the 32% state income tax hike a majority of House Democrats and 15 Republicans supported last week. And when they cash their checks and go to the nearest service station, everyone in Illinois that drives will pay an additional five cent per gallon gasoline tax.
But not only did those lawmakers celebrate the tax hike, Democrats who've declared they want to be Illinois' next governor are excited about Illinois' taxpayers tossing more into the state coffers.
The IL GOP points out:
- J.B. Pritzker supported the Madigan tax before it was fashionable for Democrats. Back in April, the News-Gazette noted that Pritzker “recently told a group of party members that the state income tax should be increased to at least 5 percent, perhaps higher.” Pritzker released a statement praising the Madigan 32% tax hike budget after it became law.
- Chris Kennedy said that Illinois “needed” the Madigan 32% tax hike budget.
- Ameya Pawar said that a 32% tax hike on middle class families somehow “protects” them.
- State Senator Daniel Biss actually voted for the Madigan tax.
So guess whether they'll veto another tax hike if they were to beat Rauner in 2018 …
