The pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List compiled this list of pro-life victories, thanks to the Trump Administration:
JUDGES
~ Neil Gorsuch confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court
~ Eight judges confirmed to the U.S. Court of Appeals
~ Four judges confirmed to the U.S. District Court
MEXICO CITY POLICY
On January 23, President Trump reinstated and dramatically expanded the Mexico City Policy, which had been in place in Republican administrations since 1984. This policy withholds funding from international groups that perform, counsel, or lobby for abortion. President Trump modernized the Mexico City Policy to not only apply to family planning organizations but to any organization, increasing the swath of involved U.S. dollars from $575 million to $8.8 billion.
UNFPA FUNDING
On April 4, the Trump Administration ended funding to the United Nations Population Fund on the basis it is complicit with China’s forced population control and abortion policies. $32.5 million in foreign aid will be redirected to other family planning and health programs.
TITLE X
On April 13, President Trump signed into law H.J. Res 43, which nullifies President Obama’s executive order banning states from blocking Planned Parenthood from receiving Title X funds.
NO TAXPAYER FUNDING FOR ABORTION ACT
This bill passed in the U.S. House in January and would make permanent the Hyde Amendment, which blocks the use of federal funds for abortion or health coverage if it includes abortion. It also extends the Hyde Amendment to cover Obamacare, which currently funds roughly 900 insurance plans that include abortion on demand. President Trump has publicly pledged support for this bill.
PAIN-CAPABLE UNBORN CHILD PROTECTION ACT – AKA “MICAH’S LAW”
This bill passed in the U.S. House in October. It protects unborn children and their mothers from painful late-term abortions starting at 20 weeks after fertilization. President Trump was the first president to issue a written statement in support. In May, Iowa became the 20th state to pass the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
SEPARATE ABORTION SURCHARGE PAYMENT ENFORCEMENT
HHS announced in October it would begin enforcing an Obamacare rule not enforced by the Obama administration, which requires insurers to bill separately for abortion. Until Obamacare is overturned and replaced with a system that does not subsidize abortion, this will serve to inform consumers and add an administrative layer.
SETTLEMENT AND NEW RULE REGARDING HHS MANDATE
The Departments of HHS, Treasury, and Labor issued two interim rules (meaning they take effect immediately while allowing a comment period) in October that provide permanent, enforceable relief from the Obama era HHS mandate that forced religious objectors, like Little Sisters of the Poor, and moral objectors, like Susan B. Anthony List, as well as private employers and educational institutions, from providing insurance coverage for contraceptives and abortifacient drugs.
DEFUNDING PLANNED PARENTHOOD
President Trump has publicly pledged support for redirecting funding from Planned Parenthood to community health centers.
