This past Wednesday, the Chicago media was giddy covering former President Obama being called for jury duty. The Daley Center was alive with activity along with a large amount of added security. There were reports of unusually huge lines taking up to 40 minutes to enter for people who had regular business with the Cook County Court System. Everybody wanted to get a glimpse of the president.
Some are speculating this was a stunt or a calculated move to show residency in Cook County for a possible run for United States Senate for him or his wife Michelle in 2018. Others say it was an opportunity for the former president to get some news coverage perhaps overshadowing President Donald Trump’s successful trip in Asia. Main Stream Media is saying he was just doing his civic duty.
The Obama’s own a home here but spent most of their time In Washington DC. As you recall, Mayor Rahm Emanuel had questions about his residency as he rented his home to a tenant so he could live in DC. He argued because he kept his wife’s wedding dress in a crawl space, that constituted residency. Perhaps Rahm would had save some trouble by just being on a jury?
Either way, everybody knows President Obama could make one phone call and get out of jury duty. So was it all a stunt?
