In part because of an extremely weak GOP organization, 70-year-old Lyons resident Arthur Jones has no opponent on the GOP Primary Ballot for the 3rd Congressional District.
He denies there is any proof that the Holocaust ever happened in Nazi Germany.
The district is now represented by moderate to conservative Democrat Dan Lipinski and leans hard to Democratic voters who gave Donald Trump only 40 percent of the vote in 2016 to 55 percent for Hillary Clinton. Lipinski himself has won over 70 percent of the vote in recent elections.
So Jones has zero chance to win even if he were a normal candidate. But his odious views on the Holocaust only serve to further tarnish the GOP brand name in Cook County. If Jones stays on the ballot as the GOP nominee for the fall, GOP officials at all levels must actively attack his views if they want any credibility with decent Americans in future years.
