The highlight of the week was President Donald Trump addressing the crowd of 7000 at CPAC 2018.
Thousands more watched the president online, and perhaps millions more watched on CSPAN, Fox News, and other cable outlets which aired his 75 minutes live. The president had a prepared speech on the teleprompter but chose to go offscript and just talk to the enthusiastic crowd.
The president spoke extensively about school safety, the 2nd Amendment, legal immigration, tax cuts, and even read a poem titled “The Snake.”
CPAC IS the yearly gathering of the Conservative Political Action Conference held at Gaylord National Resort just outside of Washington D.C. The conference lasted four days with hundreds of speakers, meetings and breakout sessions. You can see the agenda and watch most of the speakers here on the CPAC link: http://cpac.conservative.org/agenda/
I won’t try to write about all the activity and news being made. For me, much of the action was in the hallways and on radio row. This is where we meet people do interviews, networking, and just working the room. Last year I submitted a story to Illinois Review titled “Racking up the selfies at CPAC.”
This year I decided to take a few more photos. Maybe I took too many selfies but I just tell people I went to the “Brian Williams School of Journalism.” That’s a joke, you know, inserting myself in the story as Williams often did. Another insider joke this week was “we are looking to buy some twitter followers.” It’s fun and refreshing meeting with fellow conservatives who value freedom, liberty, and opportunity.

On Saturday, I had the honor of joining Stephanie Trussell with her live radio show on WLS 890-AM from the Washington DC Cumulus radio station. Her first guest was Matt Schlapp who is chairman of the America Conservative Union who ran CPAC. You can hear the rebroadcast here.

The general theme all week was “ A call to action.” Again, conservatives here are promoting freedom, liberty, and opportunity. I encouraged anybody interested in politics to attend CPAC 2019 on February 27-March 2, 2019. Save the date and I’ll see you there.
