The University of Illinois has rejected a settlement offer from three student journalists (and Campus Reform Correspondents) who are suing the school for taking disciplinary action against them for reporting on a campus protest.
After a graduate student instructor assaulted two of the students at a campus protest, and the third student reported the story for Campus Reform, administrators imposed a no-contact order that effectively prevented them from covering future campus events.
The students made a "reasonable and generous" settlement offer, according to their attorney, asking only that the university dismiss “all disciplinary matters pending against Plaintiffs,” dissolve the “incorrectly issued” no contact orders, and provide nominal compensation for damages.
