The Supreme Court overturned the 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act on May 14, creating a path for states to legalize sports betting if they choose. On Tuesday, Delaware became the first state to do so. New Jersey and Pennsylvania are expected to be next. No doubt Illinois will follow suit soon.
According to a Morning Consult survey:
-
Of the 21% of respondents who said they would participate in sporting betting if it becomes legalized in their state, a 38% plurality are ages 18-34 and a 56% majority make less than $50,000.
-
Professional football would benefit the most from legalizing the practice, with nearly one-quarter (24%) saying they’ll bet on the sport; 29% said they’d bet on the Super Bowl.
