July 4, 2018 was a great day in America. The Independence Day holiday is always a fun day of patriotic music, picnics, fireworks, parades and, of course, politics. The Republicans were out in force in preparation for the upcoming midterm elections in November.
GOP candidate John Elleson marched in Evanston's 4th of July Parade. He’s running for Congress in the 9th district against longtime Democrat Congress member Jan Schakowsky. He has an interesting website - JohnNotJan.com - and has television commercials running on CNBC.
GOPer Joan Lasonde also had a marching unit in the Evanston parade. She’s running for Illinois State Senate in the 9th district.
Marilyn Smolenski had a large number of marchers along with a red convertible in the Des Plaines parade. She running for state representative in the 55th district.
Jim Dodge running for Illinois State Treasurer joined her in the parade. Also seen were the Maine Township Republicans Women’s Club.
While July 4 is associated with picnics, parades, and fireworks, yet we still need to remember it is the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
For me, it's a celebration of freedom, liberty, and opportunity.
