CHICAGO – Democrat State Rep. Greg Harris isn't just any House member, he's House Speaker Mike Madigan's new Majority Leader – a powerful position. If the Majority Leader supports a legislative effort, there's a good chance a bill will make it out of Rules, be assigned to a Democrat-controlled House committee, and onto the House floor.
So when Rep. Greg Harris called last week for Illinoisans to "organize for healthcare as a right," it's a call that gets attention. With super majorities in both chambers and a supportive governor, Leftist lawmakers are emboldened for Illinois to head deeper into Leftist effort – such as universal healthcare.
At the federal level, Democrat presidential candidates are calling for Medicare for all, as are Democrats in the U.S. House like first term Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. New York is considering the option of universal health care for its residents. It isn't absurd to think Illinois could be next.
