According to POLITICO's Shia Kapos, Illinois House GOP Leader Jim Durkin has pulled GOP State Rep. David McSweeney's communications aide after McSweeney (photo right) elevated his criticism of fellow Republican State Rep. Steve Reick. McSweeney was irked by a comment Reick made criticizing a bill that would force private Illinois companies to seat on their boards of directors specific numbers of individuals from protected groups. According to Kapos, McSweeney paid to promote a tweet condemning Reick's comment.
In a statement to POLITICO, Durkin said: "This is an internal caucus matter. I will continue working to move the Republican Party and House Republican caucus forward in Illinois but will not tolerate public attacks on fellow members."
A few weeks ago, McSweeney also publicly condemned the Illinois Family Institute for a pro-life article and meme they published criticizing Democrats as militant abortion advocates and drawing parallels between the U.S. abortion industry and the death camps of the Holocaust.
