SPRINGFIELD – Snoop Dogg's album cover two years ago featuring the rap artist appearing to stand over President Trump's lifeless body isn't enough to cause an angry response from Illinois Republicans. While the Governor's staff flaunts Snoop Dogg's scheduled appearance at the taxpayer-subsidized State Fair next month, the state's Republicans are silent.
Snoop Dogg & Friends will be featured August 16th at the Grandstand, the Illinois State Fair website says. Tickets range from $25 to $55 – a reasonable price, considering Illinois taxpayers subsidize the State Fair's costs with millions every year.
State Rep. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) recounted on Facebook last week how she visited with Pritzker's staff to discuss the rap artist's album covers and videos that portray President Trump being assassinated, besides the cancellation of the country music group Confederate Railroad's performance at the fair because of the group's name.
"When I asked what their policy was pertaining to a sitting President being depicted in the way President Trump is depicted on Snoop Dogg’s album cover, they said, they had no such policy," Bryant said. "In fact, I was told by one of the Governor’s staffers that I should use this case as a 'teachable moment' for the people of Southern Illinois. I am serious…that is what the staffer said."
Earlier this week Illinois Democrats were outraged about a meme posted on the Illinois Republican County Chairman's Association and one after one, Republican leaders apologized and removed the post mocking the four new Congress members that call themselves the "Squad." The meme referred to the four as the "Jihad Squad" – a term that Democrats determined was racist.
Then the Kankakee County Democrats's hands were slapped when a meme comparing red MAGA caps to Ku Klux Klan hoods. "What's the difference between a Klan hood and a MAGA hat?" the question was raised. The answer? "The Klan hood was made in America."
Governor Pritzker himself commented on the meme saying, ""I think we have to bring civility back to our politics," he said. "I think we have to stand up against hate wherever it comes from. Unfortunately, we have an environment in the United States that's being fomented by the president of the United States. I would like to eliminate that. I think the only way to do that, of course, is to defeat him in the next election."
Thus, Pritzker is supportive of Snoop Dogg's appearance at the State Fair – despite the artist's virtual threats on the President.
And Republicans – except for State Rep. Terri Bryant – seem to be okay with it, too.
No boycotts against the State Fair, and no opposition petitions online could be found.
Makes conservatives wonder what would happen if that was Hillary Clinton's or Joe Biden's feet on that album cover?
And what if Snoop Dogg was pointing a gun at Alexandria Cortez or Ilhan Omar in his controversial Lavendar video?
