MOKENA – State Rep. Margo McDermed (R-Mokena) announced Wednesday that she will not be seeking a fourth term serving the 37th District in 2020.
"It is with a heavy heart that I share the news I will not be seeking re-election next year. I'm getting older and after 30 years as a corporate lawyer, followed by 14 years as an elected official, it’s time to retire again," McDermed said in a statement on her Facebook page.
"I will serve out my current term that ends in January 2021. After that, I plan to travel, quilt, volunteer, and spend more time with my two granddaughters and all my family. It has truly been an honor to serve the residents of the 37th District. Thank you."
“Margo will be deeply missed,” House Republican Leader Jim Durkin said. “Rep. McDermed was the House Republican point person in the recently-enacted capital bill and represented her caucus well.”
McDermed succeeded former State Rep. Renee Kosel (R-Mokena) in 2015, after serving as Frankfort Township Clerk, Will County Board, and State Representative for the 37th District. Rep. McDermed is married to former Will County Republican Chairman Ed Ronkowski.
