SHOREWOOD – Republican Thomas Scott McCullagh of Shorewood announced Wednesday his bid for the 49th State Senate district, now held by Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant (D).
McCullagh said in his announcement, “I want to have a state where my children and everyone's children can grow up and have a future. I want Illinois to be a place where you know that when you buy a house, you can afford it without outrageous property taxes and where your retirement accounts will be secure. Everyone wants to live in a place where they know their voice and their opinion matters.”
The tax and fee structure in Illinois is causing a mass outflow of residents to states with better tax rates, McCullagh said.
"If we are to have a hope of fiscal survival in Illinois, we must reduce personal and corporate tax rates to allow for personal and corporate growth. Without this many families do not have a sustainable future in Illinois," the small business owner said.
On the executive boards of K9s for Veterans, Forgotten Sons Homeless Veterans Charity and Channahon’s Forgotten Warrior Memorial, McCullagh is also a member of Lions Club. He is married and has two daughters.
McCullagh's top priorities will be working for tax and fee relief, restoring fiscal sanity, the sanctity of human life and the Second Amendment. He will fight against the Madigan/Cullerton machine.
“2020 is a fight for the heart and soul of our country. It is a fight against socialism," he said. "It’s a fight to give the voice back to all of Illinois, not just Chicago. It’s a fight for the rights and lives of unborn babies. It is a fight to regain fiscal sanity and stop over-taxation.”
The Illinois Senate 49thDistrict includes all or parts of Aurora, Bolingbrook, Crest Hill, Joliet, Montgomery, Naperville, Oswego, Plainfield, Romeoville, and Shorewood.
