The Woman’s Center of Greater Chicagoland held their annual "Step Up for Life" fundraiser last weekend. About two hundred pro-life advocates ran and walked together at a Cook County forest preserve. Conservative talk radio host Stephanie Trussell kicked off the walk with inspiring words. After the walk, participants enjoyed a picnic lunch and a whiffle ball tournament.
When a woman chooses to have an abortion, she not only takes the life of her child but places her own health in jeopardy. "Our mission at The Women's Center of Greater Chicagoland is to love, support, and empower a woman, giving her the tools to choose life for herself and for her child," the group says.
The Center operates a mobile van with a free ultrasound and free pregnancy tests for expectant mothers. The van often parks across from abortion clinics in Chicago. Evidence shows that close to 70% of women considering abortion will change their minds when they see a fully formed baby inside of them on the ultrasound.
The Center's professional counselors talk with the women to access the problems that led them into their crisis situations. They review all options and the consequences of each choice and identify resources that will help eliminate barriers standinf in the way of choosing life for their babies. Together, they develop plans of action to implement life-affirming decisions.
