SPRINGFIELD – As of Monday morning, three Democrats and one Republican filed petitions for Illinois' 3rd CD primary in 2020. Incumbent Democrat Dan Lipinski will be challenged once again by Democrat Marie Newman – who narrowly lost to Lipinski in the 2018 Democrat primary. However, a third Democrat filed as well – Rush Darwish.
Lipinski is noted as the last pro-life Democrat in the U.S. House – and abortion was the hot button is in the 2018 primary. Pro-lifers in the 3rd CD boasted that their door-knocking to protect Lipinski as well as their urging for normally Republican pro-lifers to crossover and pull Democrat ballots in the 2018 primary defeated pro-abortion Newman.
The third Democrat – Rush Darwish – is a new name in the district. He is a voter registration activist. Before starting a multimedia production company in 2006, he worked as a TV broadcaster in Nebraska and Texas.
One Republican filed in the 3rd CD race – Mike Fricilone – is a member of the Will County Board.
