Thorner: Time to exit the U.N.

The United Nations was established after World War II with the aim of preventing future wars, succeeding the ineffective League of Nations.  On 25 April 1945, 50 governments met in San Francisco for a conference and started drafting the UN Charter, which was adopted on 25 June 1945 and took effect on 24 October 1945, when the UN began operations. It is the largest, most familiar, most internationally represented and most powerful intergovernmental organization in the world, headquartered on international territory  in New York City; other main offices are in Geneva, Nairobi, Vienna and The Hague, according to Wikipedia.

Opposition to the U.N. is not new and has been around since its beginning.  As to the public, in 2013 a Media and Public Opinion Research Group poll found that 38% of Americans would like less involvement with the UN.  But despite public criticism, a non-partisan poll conducted after the 2016 election found that a majority of Americans (88%) did support active engagement in the United Nations.

In the past Alabama congressman Mike Rogers has called to leave the UN, as did Utah state representative Don Bush, who claimed that many programs by the UN have violated US Constitution, such as the implementation of the  International Court of Justice  and the  Law of the Sea Treaty, both of which the United States does not currently endorse.

At to the effectiveness of the UN, it has failed to prevent war and fulfill peacekeeping duties many times throughout its history. Millions of people around the world have been killed and displaced since the UN was founded in 1945. Read here twelve of the most damming indictments of the UN's ineffectiveness. In six of the events cited conflict still continues: Israel Occupation (1948 – Now); Kashmir dispute (1948 – Now); and Somali civil war (1991 – Now).

It is notable that the U.S. withdrew from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in October 2017, citing anti-Israel bias  and the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on June 2018.  Nikki Haley, when United States Ambassador to the United Nations, in speaking to reporters at United Nations headquarters about her UN withdrawal, called the UN "not worthy of its name."

One of the important items I’m hoping will be on his agenda will be to get us out of the United Nations.  Even with a Republican-controlled House, I’m not sure if he’ll be able to do it.  So many Americans, particularly those in politics, have been brainwashed into thinking the U.N. constitutes a moral authority, I’m not sure that even Trump can extricate us the way he got us out of the Paris Accords and the Iran nuclear deal.  But it’s worth his best effort.

Most of us are aware that the members of the organization include many of the worst lowlifes imaginable, including Russia, China, North Korea and over two dozen Arab and Muslim dictatorships.  Two of those nations, Russia and China, even have veto power.

Mainly, the various diplomats spend most of their time passing anti-Israel resolutions, trying to bully the U.S. into surrendering our sovereignty to the vile One Worlders and allowing countries like Iran and Saudi Arabia to head up the Committee on Human Rights.

As for their peace-keepers, at the first sign of danger, the guys in the baby blue helmets turn and run.  What they are best-known for is raping women and girls in Africa and Asia while on so-called peace-keeping missions.

The fact that we are still in the U.N. 74 years after Russian spy Alger Hiss helped create the Frankenstein-like monster doesn’t speak well of us. The fact that we even pick up most of the expense is really embarrassing.

We’re like some schnook who doesn’t play golf or tennis; never has a meal or attends a party; never uses the pool or the steam room; but year after year pays exorbitant dues to a country club.

And on top of that, gives Christmas bonuses to the tennis pro who’s been having an affair with the schlimiel's wife and the lifeguard who’s been selling pot to his kids.

But the U.N. is no country club, except for the foreign reps who have huge expense accounts and, because of their diplomatic immunity, can double-park all over New York City and give the finger to the cops.

What the U.N. most closely resembles is a loony bin run by the inmates. They tend to elect guys from Third World countries to act as front men in order to promote the illusion that even the smallest, poorest nations are the equal of the richest and most powerful.

Why else would the nine Secretary Generals have come from Norway, Sweden, Burma, Austria, Peru, Egypt, Ghana, South Korea and, currently, Portugal?

The most democratic aspect of the U.N. is that the offspring of these Secretary Generals, such as Kofi Annan’s son, get to use their father’s influence to get rich in much the same way as Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, did.

When Democrats like Bernie Sanders insist that felons, including convicted terrorists, should be allowed to vote in our elections, he’s merely following the lead of the United Nations, where the worst tyrannies on earth, such as China, which sends political dissidents and members of religious minorities to concentration camps, are encouraged to condemn Israel for human rights violations.

There are 193 nations that are official members, along with two — the Holy See and the state of Palestine — that have observer status.  When it comes to those issues that matter the most to the United States, at most we can count on seven or eight votes and maybe a dozen or so abstentions from our alleged friends and allies in Europe.  But that’s a lot more than Israel can ever expect.

One of the few American politicians who has voiced any interest in getting the U.S. out of the U.N. and the U.N. out of the U.S. is House member Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky) who has sponsored the American Sovereignty Restoration Act (HR 204) which he has nicknamed “Amexit” after the Brits voted for a “Brexit” from the U.N.-like EU.

Rep. Massie sums it up in this fashion: “The best thing you can say about the United Nations is it’s mostly ineffective, but I hate that we waste the money.  A lot of the foreign relations bills that come before us in Congress will include lines like ‘Whereas the U.N. has said this…’ or ‘the U.N. has decided that…’ – well, that’s almost an automatic no vote for me, because why would I defer to the United Nations if we’re a sovereign country?”

What the UN has planned for this nation

UN to America: We're the Boss is the title of an article Alex Newman contributed in the October 2lst, 2019 issue of The New American.  As Newman wrote, "The U.N is working hard to subvert U.S. policy in the areas of abortion, immigration, healthcare, and constitutionally protected rights trying to get authority over us. Senior UN officials are barking orders at the U.S. government as if America were a mere administrative unit in what globalists describe as the "New World Order."

Responding to state laws across America protecting unborn children, the UN claims the U.S. government must intervene to ensure the "human right" to kill babies is upheld as protected by "international law." Illegal immigration is also defined as a "human right by "globalists."  As the Trump administration worked to secure the U.S. border, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi intervened to ensure the growing tsunami of mass migration would continue."

Also on the U.N. agenda for America is to smash what's left of the nuclear family by redefining it, such as forcing mothers into the workforce, putting children into government care at an early age, expanding access to abortion, and redefining marriage to include homosexuals, and much more.  Top U.N. leaders have also decreed that everyone has a "human right" to government-controlled and government funded healthcare.

Even so, Newman spoke of the extremism outlined in his article as merely the tip of the iceberg.  Newman implored us to pressure Congress to pass H.R. 2094, the American Sovereignty Restoration Act now sitting in the House Foreign Affairs Committee.  If approved it would end U.S. membershp in, and funding, for the UN and all of its agencies.

Another article to check out by Alex Newman in the same issue of The New American: UN Globalism to Replace Americanism.  As Newman writes:  "As the United States cedes more and more power to global entities, the UN's vision for tomorrow is increasing likely to be foisted on Americans — and it won't be pretty."

Charles Scaliger was featured in The New American on Nov. 4, 2019 with this eye-catching article:  Act Now To Live Poor: The UN's plan for you, which describes how the UN's ActNow program is about individual sacrifices the UN wants everyday Americans to make and then pressure legislators to make it happen.  As Scaliger said, “One of the things that makes America great is that we can live most any lifestyle we wish.” The mindset behind the ActNow campaign is geared to sustainable development, defined by its promoters as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."

And what are some of these sustainable steps as they relate to climate change that for the most part Americans are currently being asked to voluntarily adopt?  Not only does the following list reflect the mindset of the globalist Left, but it also reflects the Socialist and communist economies envisioned by the UN plan:
