SPRINGFIELD – There's talk throughout the state of possibly ten Republicans who want to challenge Democrat U.S. Senator Dick Durbin in November 2020, but only two were ready to file petitions Monday morning as the State Board of Elections' door opened: former Lake County sheriff Mark Curran and Springfield area oncologist Tom Tarter:
Curran checked in on his personal FB page Sunday, saying his campaign team is filing for him in Springfield while he and members of his fam enjoy watching the Bears game from sunny Naples Florida as part of a family tradition:
"A wonderful tradition watching the Bear at Hooters the Sunday before Thanksgiving," Curran wrote.
Tom Tarter placed the following photo on his personal Facebook page last week, after receiving the Sangamon Co GOP's endorsement:
Filing remains open until December 2, 2019.
