WEST CHICAGO – Saturday, Republican Jim Marter and an array of 14th CD supporters delivered a letter to freshman incumbent Democrat Congresswoman Lauren Underwood, who voted to impeach President Donald Trump last week.
In 2016, Trump won the 14th CD by 17 points – then turned blue when the 2018 Blue Tsunami hit Illinois.
The Republicans want the 14th back. Seven Republicans are vying for the Republican nomination in the March 2020 primary.
Marter's letter delivery turned into an anti-impeachment demonstration, with signs like "Go Impeach Yourself" and "Stop the Circus."
"What you and Nancy Pelosi did is an exact definition of a coup," Marter read from the letter to Underwood. He said a "coup" could be defined as an act of treason. "We're here to support our President Trump," Marter said.
In a video, protesters opined, "I believe the Democrats practice Saul Alinsky tactics of accusing others of what they do themselves."
Among those at the protest was Jeanette Ward, candidate for Illinois Senate 25, who said Trump is a fighter for conservative values.
Our nation is based on the rule of law, which is applied to all equally," not equal Look at Hillary, Michael Madigan – let's take the crooks out and support the great candidates that can clean up the country," said Carol Davis of the West Suburban Patriots.
