CHICAGO – On behalf of Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Monday Commissioner Allison Arwady from the Department of Public Health announced a moratorium on the sale of liquor after 9:00 p.m that is to last until the COVID-19 crisis has subsided.
Starting tomorrow, April 9th, Chicago retailers must not sell liquor after 9:00 p.m. Retailers will be able to sell liquor during the day. Sales can begin at the regular posted time for the city, but all sales must cease at 9:00 p.m. This order is in effect at least until the city's "Stay at Home" order is lifted.
The Illinois Food Retail Association notes that "Some retail members may have been requested by the local police department to stop selling liquor at 6:00 pm. We suggest that you continue with that practice."
While no restrictions were noted on marijuana sales, most Chicago recreational and medical pot stores close between 6 and 7 PM.
