CHICAGO – Eight Republican state senators signed onto a letter to Governor Pritzker, asking for an easing of the state's most stringent social distancing requirements and a plan to re-open Illinois as the state's coronavirus numbers begin to flatten.
"Illinois should ease back on some of the more aggressive social distancing as soon as the Illinois Hospital Association that ICU bed capacity is sufficient to respond to the projected levels of COVID-19 admissions," the senators suggested.
They asked that county officials be given more authority to determine behavior within their county borders. They also said Illinois is "past the time" when a plan for re-opening Illinois should have been unveiled.
The senators that signed on were Senators Paul Schimpf, Donald DeWitte, Jim Oberweis, Craig Wilcox, Jason Plummer, Chuck Weaver, Sue Rezin and Dan McConchie.
