SUGAR GROVE – Chicago families whose local grocery stores and pharmacies have been badly damaged in the recent outbreak of riots and looting are hurting but State Senator Jim Oberweis (R-Sugar Grove) and candidate for Congress in the 14th District, is calling on suburban families to join him in lending a helping hand.
“It is important for us as Americans to help our neighbors in need and so I am asking families in the 14th District to help in a meaningful way,” Oberweis said. “I am working with Pastor Corey Brooks in Woodlawn to give 100 families of four enough food for two days. That’s breakfast, lunch, and dinner for two days. We can’t help everyone, but we can help 100 families in Pastor Brooks’ community.”
Oberweis is leading a caravan to Pastor Brooks’ church on Saturday June 20th. Families who are donating care packages will be able to personally deliver the packages and let the families in need know they are not alone.
“These families desperately need our help and more importantly, they need to know that there are people who care about them and what they are going through,” Oberweis said. “This is why I also am asking people to go with me to Pastor Brooks’ church and deliver the meals personally. I will be driving a milk truck with 1000 quarts of milk donated by Oberweis Dairy. I am also asking for people to include a handwritten note of encouragement with their care packages.”
Anyone interested in donating should purchase dry goods (enough for a family of four to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner for two days) and show up at 8 am on June 20th at one of the following locations:
- Woodman’s Market
27555 IL Route 120, Lakemoor, IL
- Woodman’s Market
151 Hansen Blvd., North Aurora, IL
- Woodman’s Market
2100 Randall Rd., Carpentersville, IL
From the caravan locations, everyone will drive over to New Beginnings Church of Chicago, located at 6620 S King Dr. in Chicago.
