A Lake County, Illinois rally in support of President Donald Trump was held Saturday, August 15, 2020 at the corner of Route 60 and Milwaukee Road in Vernon Township.
The event was spearheaded by a woman from Lake Forest High School, who wishes to remain anonymous.
Lake County Republicans made the flyer that was first seen on Wednesday, August 13, 2020, when it was blasted out.
Notice of the event was likewise posted on Facebook groups, but basically it was word of mouth, social media, and e-mails sent to friends by those who knew about the event, that alerted Lake County patriots and Trump supporters to the rally on such short notice. Even so, I met participants who came to support Trump from neighboring counties.
The announcement told of a Trump rally in support of President Trump that was to be held on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at the corner of Route 60 and Milwaukee Road from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Suggested parking was on the Sear's (now closed) parking lot at the Hawthorne Shopping Center.
An estimated 200 plus Trump supporters came to rally for the President. Besides expressing their enthusiasm for Trump, it was also a time for participants to renew their Republican friendships with those they hadn't seen for some time due to Covid-19 and the cancellation of in-person political events these past several months. There was a sense of relief from what is normal nowaday, in that neither masks or spacing were enforced, although some mask wearers were spotted.
Participants lined Route 60 north of the intersection and Milwaukee Road west of the intersection. Trump/Pence yard signs were placed every few feet. Participants brought with them all manner of signs and flags to display as the substantial Saturday midday traffic passed by.
Although there were signs reading "HONK IF YOU AGREE," they weren't needed to encourage behavior from passing motorists and truck drivers that were quick to honk their horns in approval of what they saw. At times a steady stream of honks from motorists could be heard, although from time to time comments of disrespect were shouted from those in moving cars, along with thumbs down signaling a lack of support for what they saw.
Lake County has drifted to the left; it used to be a predictable Republican county in northern Illinois. However, it did seem to bode well that so much positive response was garnered as patriots and Trump supporters heeded the call to rally in support of President Trump for four more years.
Comments made by participants follow when asked by Thorner why they turned out on a beautiful Saturday morning to rally for Trump?:
"Because he's pro-life."
"Because he's done more than the last 10 presidents in 3 years."
"To support Trump, but most of all to our country and our flag."
"To support our president and vice president. Red all the way."
"To meet people I know and to show support for Trump."
“Because I believe in Trump so much and want to keep our nation in freedom.”
“To support a peaceful rally and to support President Trump as well.”
“Because I love liberty and freedom and President Trump is trying to preserve it the best he can.”

The November election could decide whether this nation remains a constitutional republic or goes the way of socialism, which has never succeeded wherever or whenever it has ever been tried.
