Governor Pritzker moans that he will have to cut the state government bureaucracy to balance the budget. Really? The sleuths at OpenTheBooks.com headed by Andrew Andrzejewski just completed an investigative report on how several states – including Illinois – (mis)spend their money.
Illinois – 110,000 Illinois public employees whose salary or pension exceeds $100,000 costs taxpayers $14 billion and this includes:
- Tree trimmers in Chicago make $106,663;
- Nurses at state corrections earn up to $277,100;
- Junior college presidents make $491,095;
- University doctors earn up to $2 million;
- An Illinois family of four now owes more in unfunded pension liabilities ($76,000) than they earn in annual household income ($63,585).
