Illinois continues to have one of the harshest economic lockdowns in the country and new unemployment claims have risen for the past four consecutive weeks – capped by a 27 percent increase last week.
Rockford is Illinois’ third-largest city. Mayor Tom McNamara, a Democrats is begging Pritzker, to end some state mandates, including one that’s shut down indoor dining in his region.
He says if restaurants don’t get relief “we're really just saying close your doors, you're not going to make it through the holiday season.”
Pritzker is ignoring such pleas, choosing to devote his efforts to pass a ballot measure hiking the state’s top income tax rate. When CNN asked him why his state’s struggling economy was at the same time experiencing an increase in reported virus cases, he blamed President Trump’s allies.
"People are not following the mitigations, because the modeling is so bad at the leadership level, the federal level,” Pritzker said. “We are trying to get the word out and you're trying to continue to convince people to do the right thing but it is the president's allies in our state, all across the state, who are simply saying to people don't pay any attention to the mitigations, don't follow the rules.”
The World Health Organization and many other experts have finally concluded that lockdowns are ineffective at combatting the virus while at the same time they cripple the economy. Pritzker has emerged as one of the nation's worst governors – along with Cuomo and Murphy – because King JB is letting his state go down the drain in a lockdown ship.
