Rossi: How to Protect Your Kids and Grandkids From the Left’s Lies About America’s Past

Every day I hear on the news that more and more of our public schools are teaching the horrific and dishonest “1619 Project” to our kids which teaches them that America has an evil past and is a racist country. Anybody who actually knows U.S. history and has traveled around the world knows that America is the greatest nation in the history of the world that has brought freedom to over a billion people around the world. But if our innocent kids are taught the completely dishonest “1619 Project”, they will believe exactly the opposite. They will believe that America was build on slavery, not freedom and it continues to be a systematically racist nation. I have decided that I will protect my grandkids from these lies and I will share with you how I am doing it.

As I grew up I was taught at home by my parents and grandparents and at school why America is so special and the pride in my country that created lasted all my life. Both sides of my family have risked their lives fighting for freedom including my great, great Grandfather who signed the Declaration of Independence & Constitution, 26 ancestors that fought with the Union Army to free the slaves in the Civil War, an Uncle that served with General Macarthur to convert Japan into a democracy, my Grandfather who fought the Germans in WWI and was shot 3 times, and my Father who risked his life fighting for his new country in China and Burma to defeat Japan in WWII to earn citizenship in his new country, America!. The bottom line is that American greatness is not abstract to me, it is very real. On top of all that, I have done business with people in countries all around the world and I have seen the horror of socialism and communism first hand and every time I land back at O’Hare, I want to kiss the runway and thank God that I live in America!

I became very concerned that if I leave teaching my grandkids why America is great to our schools, they may never understand how lucky they are to live in America. So I created a short and sweet primer on why America is the greatest nation on Earth for them. I would like to share this with everybody so they have the option of sharing it with their kids and grandkids as well. My 9 and 11 year old grandkids were fascinated and learned a lot when I shared this with them!

Why America is the greatest nation on Earth

• America has brought freedom to over a billion people around the world with its own blood and treasure!
• WWI- Germany was about to conquer Western Europe as it had surrounded Paris and was about to win. Then Germany started sinking U.S. merchant ships that were supplying Britain food and weapons and that brought America into the war in April 1917. We sent 4.7 million of our troops and food and weapons to help our allies defeat Germany. In just a little over a year and a half later, Germany was defeated in large part thanks to America saving the freedom of over 200 million people.
• WWII– Germany had conquered virtually all of Western Europe except for Britain and Japan had conquered much of Asia. America was not in that war until Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and Hitler declared war on America. Once in that war 16 million Americans joined the military and America provided the soldiers, weapons, and food that allowed the allies to win the war. America brought freedom back to 440 million Europeans and over 300 million Asians with its blood and treasure. On top of that, America helped to rebuild its allies and former enemies with the Marshall Plan contributing over $100 billion at today’s value. That has never been done in global history!
• After WWII America protected Western Europe from the USSR with tens of thousands of its troops and billions of dollars of US weapons. Eventually that caused the USSR to collapse without firing a shot which freed many Eastern European countries that Russia conquered and/or controlled after WWII including Eastern Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Romania, Bulgaria, and others. That brought freedom to tens of millions of people!
• America spends more than any member of its NATO allies to protect freedom in the world
• No other nation in history has ever done this!!

The Truth About Slavery and Freedom in America

• Slavery has been practiced on every continent in the world except Antarctica (nobody lives there!) for thousands of years. It did not start in the USA which did not even exist as an independent country until 1783!
• Slavery was practiced by:
• The Middle East starting in 3,500 B.C. (legalized in Hammurabi Codes in 1,860 B.C.)
• Virtually every country in Africa as part of continuous tribal wars
• The entire Roman Empire going back over 2,000 years
• Indigenous People in North , South, and Central America practiced slavery for thousands of years before Europeans arrived and  they also practiced cannibalism and human sacrifices! Aztecs and Mayans sacrificed over 1 million people for religious purposes.
• Islamic nations practiced slavery from the 7^th century until the 20^th century
• Every other nation on Earth practiced slavery at one time or another
• It is estimated that between 25-40 million illegal slaves are still held today in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa! But none in the USA!
• China uses slave labor in concentration camps for low costs and higher profits today!
• History of slavery and freedom in the USA
• The USA did not become an independent nation until 1783 and slavery started here while we were a British colony (not counting the thousands of years of slavery practiced by Indigenous People in America)
• The USA made slavery completely illegal in 1865 at the end of the Civil War when it was just 82 years old! But many U.S states made slavery illegal even before that:
• Some US states made slavery illegal while still British colonies including Rhode island and Vermont
• The US made slavery illegal in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ohio through the Northwest Territory Ordinance in 1787 when America was just 4 years old!
• The Last Northern state to make slavery illegal was New Jersey in 1804 when America was just 21 years old
• America ended the slave trade from Africa in 1807 when it was just 23 years old! That was before Spain, France, and the Netherlands did!
• 650,000 Americans died in the Civil war to free the slaves and 1 million were wounded.
• The Union Army which fought for freedom was led by Republican President Abraham Lincoln. The Confederates that fought for slavery were led by Democrats!
• What most folks don’t know about slavery in the USA and the Civil War
• Virtually 100% of the first Black slaves in America were originally enslaved by fellow Africans in tribal wars and then sold for profit and shipped to America. Only 6% of those slaves ended up in what is now the USA, 94% ended up in Central America or South America to raise and harvest cotton and sugar.
• 13% of US slaves were owned by free Black plantation owners in the South who fought with the Confederate Army to keep their slaves for profit!
• The five major Indian tribes including the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole tribes also owned slaves and fought with the Confederate Army to keep them.
• After the Civil War was won by Republicans, those Republicans passed the 13^th Amendment which ended slavery in 1865, the 14^th Amendment that gave Blacks citizenship in 1868, and the 15^th Amendment in 1870 which gave Blacks the right to vote. Democrats voted against all of those amendments! Yet Democrats insist that Republicans are systematically racist! History says that is a lie.
• Black Americans got their freedom, citizenship, and the right to vote just 87 years after the USA became an independent nation!

Conclusion? Tragically slavery is an evil sin that has been practiced all around the world for thousands of years. The USA practiced slavery less than virtually any nation on Earth and then shed the lives of 650,000 Americans to end that terrible practice forever. America is the freest, most prosperous, and most open nation in the world which millions of people from around the world try to come to and live every year. And the USA has brought freedom to over 1 billion people with its own blood and treasure. Those teachers and schools that teach the horribly dishonest and destructive “1619 Project” to our kids are either horribly ignorant and misinformed or they are child abusers harming the future of this great nation. Any properly informed person knows that America is “The land of the free and home of the brave”!
