President Joe Biden delivered his first prime time address Thursday, March 11, 2021, shortly after signing into law a $1.9 trillion Covid-19 relief bill, where only 9% was targeted for Covid relief.
The address marked the president’s 50th day in office and came exactly a year after state and local government began imposing lockdowns in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19 and limit the fallout from the pandemic.
Media responds to Biden’s speech
Responses were quick and varied.
On March 12, 2021 Tristan Justice of The Federalist wrote the following in his article, Biden Obey Dr. Fauci Or You'll Be Locked Down Past July 4:
“We need everyone to get vaccinated. We need everyone to keep washing their hands. We need everyone to keep wearing the mask,” Biden said from the White House, after telling the American people if they follow Dr. Anthony Fauci’s orders, they might get to spend the 4th of July holiday with their friends and neighbors. But, Biden maintained, “that doesn’t mean large events.”
Andrea Widburg in her American Thinker article, referred to Biden's speech as Biden's "scary, boring, and bizarre address to the nation":
“On Thursday night, a masked Biden tottered down a long, empty hall to a podium. He then gave the most bizarre presidential address in American history. After a grim recital of "facts" about the last year, Biden emphasized multiple times that Americans had better take the vaccine — and be grateful to him for his amazing ability to get the vaccine to Americans. He also insisted that, vaccines or not, the government's in control and can lock all of us up all over again.”
The New York Post referred to Biden's disappointing prime time speech as a con job:
“Low as our expectations were, President Biden still disappointed with his speech Thursday night.
“We’re supposed to hope that if all goes well, we can gather with a few others outdoors to celebrate Independence Day? Sorry, sir, we can do that now. And Americans by the tens if not hundreds of millions are.”
“And in Texas, Florida and other states, they’ll be packing stadiums by Memorial Day — with precautions, sure. But half the country’s done with extreme cautions.”
As Christopher Barron set forth in his March 12, 2021 article, The Media Hopes You Didn't Watch Biden's Speech:
“Even by Biden standards the speech was dismal. Biden rambled, looked lost, and delivered cringe-worthy attempts at ‘showing emotion.’”
“It was more Saturday Night Live than Lincoln, but you wouldn’t know that if you didn’t watch the speech.”
“If you just watch and read the coverage of the speech, and skipped the speech itself, you would think that Biden delivered an absolute homerun of oration last night – rather than the stumbling mess he actually delivered.”
“Fact checking at Breitbart found Biden's claim that more Americans have died of COVID-19 “than in World War I, World War II, the Vietnam war and 9/11 combined" as mostly false, as the total number of deaths in those conflicts, including non-combat deaths, is higher."
“As noted by the Congressional Research Service data set, service deaths for the three wars combined—including fatalities not directly from battle—totals to 580,135. Adding 9/11 terror attack deaths brings the total to 583,112—more than COVID deaths.”
Some pronounce Biden’s speech incredible
Americans have been told not to believe their lying ears and eyes.
According to CNN's John Harwood, All Americans Have Been Missing a President Who Conveys Empathy.
“I think a spiking the football is the last thing that President Biden wanted to do. What was notable about the speech was the appeal to universal values. It was striking in the way that the president conveys empathy in unadorned language, trying to appeal to the common experiences that all Americans have been missing during this pandemic.”

“Democrats and far lefties have been so desperate for a president that’s not Donald Trump that they were literally crying tears of joy during the first presidential address to the nation by a mushmouth, low-energy, septuagenarian dinosaur named Joe Biden.”
“Really? The only thing people should have been crying about was that the almost 25 minute-long speech from the stutterer-in-chief wasn’t half that long. People are going to insist they were inspired and moved to tears by a half hour Biden snoozefest? Come on, man!”
"The director of When Harry Met Sally actually tweeted during the televised speech, 'Thank God we have a real President. It makes you cry.'"
"Beauty And The Beast actor Josh Gad queued up the melodrama with his opinion of Biden’s televised address. He stated, 'It is so nice to have an empath instead of a psychopath.' Yeah, take that, Trump."
The obvious exposed
It was Matt Taibi who illustrated the obvious that even Goebbels was more subtle than our present media in his article: “The Sovietization of the American Press.”
"We now know in advance that every Biden address will be reviewed as historic and exceptional. It was only a mild shock to see Chris Wallace say Biden’s was the "the best inaugural address I have ever heard."
"More predictable was Politico saying of Thursday night’s address that “it is hard to imagine any other contemporary politician making the speech Biden did… channeling our collective sorrow and reminding us that there is life after grief.”
“This stuff is relatively harmless. Where it gets weird is that the move to turn the bulk of the corporate press in the “moral clarity” era into a single party organ has come accompanied by purges of the politically unfit. In the seemingly endless parade of in-house investigations of journalists, paper after paper has borrowed from the Soviet style of printing judgments and self-denunciations, without explaining the actual crimes.”
Already a backtracking of Biden’s 4th promise
On March 14, 2021, Savannah Pointer reported about the backtracking of Biden's 4th of July promise: "White House press secretary Jen Psaki immediately back-peddled on the promises, claiming that the Biden administration is asking Americans not to have a “mass event” or “return to total normalcy” for the Fourth of July, according to Fox News."
'When pressed, the press secretary wouldn’t give a timeline as to when the current administration would advise that Americans go back to exercising their rights to free assembly."
“It really depends on a couple of factors,” Psaki said blaming some Americans’ hesitancy to vaccinate as one of the reasons the White House wants to keep lockdown protocols in place.
Is mask wearing worth it?
In an article dated March 10, 2021 in Liberty News by Steve Elliott, founder of Grassfire, Shock — How much Mask Mandates help stop COVID, Elliott asks the following question:
"Was it worth it? All the mask-shaming? All the loss of freedom? If you knew ONE YEAR AGO that a massive MASKING effort that would cost BILLIONS, greatly limit your freedoms, and somehow empower fellow citizens to shame you and harass you for not wearing a mask would only result in a very minimal less than 2% improvement in the COVID crisis, would you have gone along with the MASKquerade?"
"Or, we could have done THIS and cut COVID cases by 96 percent. More details here.”
That masking will likely continue after July 4th should be of concern to all freedom-loving Americans.
