CHICAGO – According to the HeyJackass.com website, Chicago's summer heat prompted more shootings and killings last weekend among the city and state's ongoing "Defund the Police" effort.
Last week alone, 25 were shot and killed while 115 were shot and wounded in Chicago's streets, bringing the year to date totals up to 423 killed in the City of Chicago alone.
In the meantime, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is very concerned whether next weekend's Lollapalooza attendees will be safe from COVID-19. Lightfoot told the New York Times she's open to mandating masks again if the COVID death rate exceeds 300 again.
Apparently, she's focused on keeping the public safe – from COVID – not so much criminals.
“I hope we don’t get there,’ Lightfoot added. “What we’re going to keep focusing on is pushing the vaccine. But my number one priority is to keep people safe.”
