Actress Whoopi Goldberg has been suspended from the ABC talk show she has co-hosted for 15 years – The View – for two weeks, for saying, amazingly, that the Holocaust was “not about race.”
In a fascinating riff, not a single moment of misspeak, but a statement on which she doubled down, she told her audience that “the Holocaust had nothing to do with race,” because after all, “these are two white groups of people.”
Now, think about that. This wasn’t a confused old man like Joe Biden misreading his Teleprompter, or someone who’s hard of hearing, clearly misunderstanding the question. This is the way she thinks.
And that makes it one of the most revealing statements any Leftist has made in decades.
Many of us kid that Whoopi Goldberg is a dummy. She’s not. She's a capable actress and once-funny comedienne, though burdened with an extreme leftist worldview.
At some level, she 'knows' that the Holocaust was the bigotry of non-Jewish Germans against Jews (and also numerous other groups, such as Gypsies, homosexuals, priests and nuns, and political opponents… but especially Jews), but that knowledge is suppressed because it interferes with her worldview.
The revealing issue here is that Whoopi Goldberg (who consciously adopted a Jewish surname as her stage name, which entitles her audience to expect a bit more awareness from her, at least) does not acknowledge that this particular bigotry – antisemitism – is a type of racism.
And she doesn’t acknowledge it for a reason. This is a conscious choice, if not by her personally, then by her movement, the modern Left.
Now, the rest of us – normal, sane people living in the real world like you and me – all recognize that there are many kinds of racism in the world. Almost every imaginable distinction between groups can exist as racism.
There are big, obvious types of racism: White versus black, Arab versus Jew, Chinese versus Russian… but there are also types that outsiders wouldn’t expect: Sicilian versus Calabrese, Hutu versus Tutsi, English versus Irish, and so forth. There are probably hundreds of specific bigotries, all over the world, between people who don’t acknowledge the biological equality of “the human race” and instead draw lines based on skin color, genealogy, regional borders, and cultural differences.
Decent folks acknowledge they exist, and strive to rise above them, and to raise their children to be free of them.
But the modern Left simply cannot acknowledge all that… and there’s a reason:
The modern Left is completely dependent upon the idea that the whole world is out to get American blacks. That’s the only racism that matters, the only racism that’s “real” in the eyes of today’s intersectional left.
This is why the Left highlights some kinds of crime while disregarding other kinds of crime that numerically dwarf it. Terrorism, to them, is “some people did something.” Mass murder is dismissed as “political differences.” An vehicular attack at a Christmas parade, that anyone else would attribute to racist hatred, the modern Left chalks up to “mental illness.”
Why?
Because if the Left admits that there are 100 different bigotries in the world, then the raison d’etre for hiring quotas – and affirmative action and set-aside programs, and the welfare state and slavery reparations, and vote fraud facilitation and a black female appointment to the supreme court – is all blown away like the wind.
Because if they admit to the existence of a hundred other bigotries, then the specific bigotry to which they have hitched their wagon – and locked in their most dependable voting base – is no longer anything remarkable, anything special, deserving of all kinds of unconstitutional, illogical, costly and societally destructive measures.
What a house of cards the modern Left is built upon.
And what a favor Whoopi Goldberg did us all, by sloppily, carelessly, shockingly revealing it.
